Casting and Auditions
Every enrolled student will receive a meaningful role in the musical. Speaking parts, solos, ensemble placements, and dance roles will be determined through auditions during the first days of class.
Casting a musical is like putting together a puzzle: every student and every role is important to the complete production. We ask families to trust the directors’ experience and support their student in making the most of the role they receive.
Arrival Time
Students should arrive 5–15 minutes before class to change shoes and begin stretching. Please do not arrive more than 15 minutes early, as staff may still be preparing the building and classrooms.
Rehearsal Attire
Students should wear comfortable, modest clothing that allows them to move freely.
Appropriate rehearsal attire includes:
-
Sweatpants, yoga pants, or exercise pants
-
Shorts that reach at least mid-thigh
-
Shirts that fully cover the midsection during all movement
-
Clean tennis shoes or black jazz shoes
-
Hair pulled back and away from the face
Please observe the following guidelines:
-
No hats
-
No low-cut necklines
-
No bare midsections
Students must bring appropriate dance shoes to every class.
Dance Shoe Resources

Scripts and Class Materials
-
Clearly label the script with your child’s name.
-
Bring the script, a sharpened pencil, and a pocket folder to every class.
-
Label the pocket folder with your child’s name.
-
Students may mark their scripts in pencil.
-
Scripts may be kept or returned at the end of the production. Please do not throw them away.
Drop-Off and Pick-Up at FPMT Studios
Please drive slowly and carefully through the North 101 Business Park parking lot.
Traffic Flow and Entrance
-
After entering the lot, turn immediately right and follow the counterclockwise traffic loop.
-
Use the entrance shared with Quilted Treasures.
-
Look for the yellow FPMT sign and orange cones.
-
Do not block the entrances of neighboring businesses.
Drop-Off
-
Students will be greeted by an FPMT staff member or trained teaching assistant.
-
Do not park or idle in the carpool lane.
Pick-Up
-
Form a carpool line in front of the same entrance used for drop-off.
-
Students will remain inside the designated orange-cone area until their ride arrives.
-
Students may not walk through the parking lot to a parked vehicle alone.
-
Students should enter vehicles from the driver’s side whenever possible.
-
Please arrive no earlier than five minutes after class ends.
-
If you arrive early, park in a designated space rather than blocking the carpool lane or nearby businesses.
Phones and Driving
Please avoid phone use while driving or moving through the pick-up line. Stay alert—safety is our top priority.
Parent Visits
FPMT classes are normally drop-off and pick-up only. Because of limited space, parents may not remain on site during rehearsals.
If siblings are waiting for their own classes, please ask a staff member where they may wait. There are also several nearby coffee shops, stores, and places to run errands while your child is in class.
FPMT welcomes scheduled parent visits. To arrange a time to observe your child’s class, email frontporchmusicaltheatre@gmail.com.
Illness and Absences
If your child is ill and will miss class, please email frontporchmusicaltheatre@gmail.com.
Please make sure your family’s contact information is current so we can reach you when needed. Click here to update your contact information.
Winter Weather
FPMT does not typically cancel rehearsals because of winter weather. Parents should use their own judgment when deciding whether it is safe for their family to travel.
If FPMT closes because of weather, families will be notified by text and through the FPMT app before class.
FPMT T-Shirts and Hoodies
Show your theatre pride with FPMT apparel! Families will have an opportunity to order T-shirts and hoodies during the semester. They are perfect for rehearsals, performances, and casual wear.
Production Photos and Recordings
-
Some productions will be professionally recorded.
-
DVDs or Blu-rays may be available for purchase when performance rights allow.
-
A professional photographer will photograph the full cast.
-
A $25 photo fee will be billed during the final month of class. This fee gives families access to hundreds of professional production photos.
Parent Volunteers
Parent volunteers play an important role in bringing each production to life!
Throughout the semester, families will receive information about opportunities to help with costumes, sets, and other production needs. A SignUpGenius link for performance-week volunteers will also be emailed a few weeks before the show.
Volunteering is a wonderful way to support your student, meet other families, and become part of the FPMT community.
Student Conduct
Students are expected to treat directors, staff members, teaching assistants, volunteers, fellow cast members, and the FPMT facility with respect.
Foul language, bullying, or rude and disruptive behavior will not be tolerated and may be grounds for dismissal from the production.
Help Us Promote the Show
Help us fill the seats!
-
Share the posters and flyers your student brings home.
-
Invite family members, friends, neighbors, and classmates.
-
Share performance information through social media and community groups.
A full and enthusiastic audience makes the performance even more special for our students!

Now, on with the show!
Student & Parent Contract
Students and Parents: Please read through carefully and completely. Student and Parent must print, sign and turn in this contract each semester. Signed contracts need to be turned in at AUDITIONS.
Although being a member of a cast is fun and exciting, it also requires commitment, time, and responsibility. The time and commitment not only affects the cast member, but also their family. We feel it is important for all parties involved to be aware of what is expected right from the start. Please read the following contract with your child and sign the form if you agree to your cast member’s participation in the production under these conditions.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at info@fpmtheatre.com.
CAST RESPONSIBILITIES
FPMT is a theatre school and therefore, you will not only learn to be a better actor while performing for an audience, but you will also participate in the production process. Listed below are the responsibilities expected of you as a member of the FPMT’s production.
Read through the following important procedures.
- Trust the directors through the audition and casting process. Accept the role given to you, understanding that every student is vital to the success of the show. A tremendous amount of work goes into auditions and casting, and it is very difficult to redo this entire process if someone drops if they don’t get their top choice of a role they auditioned for.
- Treat all staff and fellow actors with respect and kindness.
- Pay attention to all announcements given in rehearsals.
- Attend all required rehearsals.
- Please give advance notice (at least three days) for a missed rehearsal by notifying us at info@fpmtheatre.com. In the event of an illness or emergency, notify Mrs. Linda by phone (763) 260-4053 or email as soon as possible.
- Commit to NO ABSENCES the last month of rehearsals and also all stage dates.
- Be prepared, ready, and focused for each rehearsal. Arrive 15 minutes (not more than 20 minutes) prior to rehearsal start time to socialize, stretch and get ready to rehearse. Bring your script and pencil to every rehearsal.
- Have lines, songs and blocking memorized on time.
- Dress appropriately at all rehearsals. Refer to “Showtime Class Procedures…” then “What should my student wear….”
- Respect the properties where we rehearse and perform.
- Do not leave the building before the end of rehearsal unless approved by a FPMT staff person first.
- At rehearsal end, exit through the designated door and wait in the assigned area for your ride. For your safety, do not walk into the parking lot unless you are the driver or with a parent. Please pay attention.
- Showtime Students: Drivers–no texting or talking on cell phones while driving in the parking lot.
- Cell phones should be silenced and put away with your belongings during rehearsals.
- Showtime students: Attend at least one tech session to help with set construction, set painting, props, costumes, etc.
- Showtime students: Attend set strike following the last performance unless excused by directors.
- Provide costume/costume pieces if necessary.
We understand that being a FPMT actor is a commitment, and that I/my student need to abide by all the standard and protocols set forth by the FPMT staff. We are willing to do our best in this endeavor.
We also realize the possible risks involved in having students in active, group classes and have given permission to enroll our student at our own risk.
